Michael Garton
OBITUARY
Michael Paul Garton, 81, passed away on March 31, 2025, after a long illness. He was born on November 18, 1943, in Red Bluff, California, the youngest of two children born to Paul and Ruey Garton. In the early 1950s, the family moved to Vallejo when his father began working at the Vallejo Times Herald Newspaper.
Mike attended Vallejo schools, graduating from Vallejo Senior High. He then went on to Vallejo Junior College, where he earned an Associate of Arts degree. In the summer of 1960, Mike met his future wife, Beverly Hahn, of Vallejo. The two were married in Reno, Nevada, in the summer of 1965. Together, they had two children, Neal Woodrow (1968) and Cindy Charlene (1971). Mike and Beverly would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August 2025.
In 1964, Mike obtained his General Contractor’s License and established Garton Construction Company in Vallejo. Over the years, he built room additions and remodeled many homes in the Solano area, eventually becoming a real estate developer. Mike also operated Garton Garage Door Company, located at 10 Broadway in Vallejo, which specialized in installing overhead garage doors and Genie Automatic Door openers.
In 1991, the family acquired a Baskin Robbins franchise, with stores on Tennessee Street and in American Canyon. Mike retired in 1997 and moved to Napa, where he purchased 13 acres of land, including a home that he converted into an office, and two cottages he turned into rental properties. He began planting Cabernet Sauvignon vines and aspired to enter the wine business.
An avid duck hunter, Mike enjoyed hunting at the family-owned Tule Belle Duck Club on the Suisun Marsh, as well as deer hunting at the Lake Berryessa Deer Camp. He also loved boating with family and friends in Lake Tahoe during the summer and snow skiing in the winter. Traveling with loved ones, especially to his place in Cabo San Lucas, was one of Mike’s greatest joys.
Mike was a proud member of the Vallejo Elks Club, NSOTGW, Sons of Italy, California Waterfowl Association, Ducks Unlimited, Allied Grape Growers, California Farm Bureau, and the Homewood Homeowners Association.
He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly (Bev), his daughter Cindy (Darren), his daughter in law Elena, and his six grandchildren: Matthew, Charlotte, Woody, Walker, Wesley, and Ally Sue. Mike was predeceased by his son Neal, and his sister, Jacky. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Charlene Moelk (Jim Moelk), and nieces Sally Wells (Pete Wells), Sherry Elizalde, and Jill Timmons.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 9, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Green Valley Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, or the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Bill Wilson Sent Home on “HOSPICE”
Wednesday,
December
24,
2025
I received a phone call from Bill Wilson who told me the following; he said he was just released from the hospital with some very disturbing news. He said his body is full of cancer, and was sent home on hospice. He wanted to thank all of his classmates for all of the years of friendship. He said he didn’t want the surgery on his brain, so I assume that means it is truly terminal. It was difficult to listen to say his final remarks. He thanked me for helping him reach all his classmates with this information. I was driving to Washington and got really choked up with the news. He said he will see all of us on the other side. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

I received my mini yearbook today and I just love it, it’s beautiful. I have sat here looking at it and can’t get over how the color is and the pictures so brilliant. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I am.
I don’t know how to print this to everyone but would love for them to know about how it is and how I feel.
Best Wishes and Enjoy,
Jo Anne Richardson Conley

After graduation, went to Lendhardt School of Court reporting for one year. Served a full-time mission for my Church 1973-1974 in Alaska, British Columbia and Yukon. Attended BYU upon my return. Married my high school sweetheart Faye, January 1966.
Was drafted in the military in Oct. 1966. Since I had not finished college, they (Army) encouraged me to go to OCS (Officers Candidate School) which meant another 8-9 months which I refused. Fortunately, I had limited fighting duties when sent to Vietnam though trained as a grunt. When they found out that I had typing and shorthand skills, I was able to navigate out of harms way. After my year in Vietnam, I finished serving at the Oakland Army Base processing military out of the service. Received a two month early out to go back to college. Completed college in California graduating from Cal-State Hayward with two babies on our laps while working full-time for PG&E in the motor pool. Received a BS Degree in Business Management. Started my masters program and dropped out...tired of being poor.
Obtained insurance. stock brokers, real estate brokers license. Received a life time certificate to teach real estate finance, principals and management in the California Junior College System.
1971 decided to make a career in commercial real estate. Worked for a regional real estate firm with offices in Calif. Oregon and Hawaii. Managed their San Jose office where Faye and I moved in 1973. In 1977, my partner Steve Coates & I founded Coates & Sowards, Inc. specializing in commercial management, leasing and sales. Small company by design and still is. Celebrated our 38th year. It has been a wonderful career and life. Faye and I have six children, 3 sons and 3 daughters; currently 22 grandchildren. Retired as a principal of Coates&Sowards, Inc. after being in the commercial real estate business for 40 years. My son. Jason purchased my 50% interest. Moved to St. George, Utah in 2011 where we currently reside.
We enjoy traveling and have seen many lands and people. What a marvelous earth! Our life is centered around our family, firm belief in God and wonderful friends.
