Today's Featured Biography
Gordon Davis
1981 Graduated from Northwestern University
with Bachelor of Science in Chemical
Engineering degree.
1981 Moved to Houston, TX to work for Shell
Oil Company as a Data Processing
Analyst.
1981 Started attending Second Baptist Church.
1982 Was baptized in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
thus joining the Church.
1989 Resigned from Shell Oil Company; started
classes in Computer Science at the
University of Houston.
1990 Started Computer Science Ph.D. program
at University of Illinois.
1990 Started attending Community Evangelical
Free Church.
1993 Started working for IBM in Rochester,
MN as a Senior Associate Programmer.
1994 Started attending Bethesda Baptist
Church. Later joined it.
1995 Job at IBM ended.
1996 Started job with start-up ObjectSpace,
Inc. in Dallas, TX metro area as an
Object Technologist.
1996 Visited England and Scotland.
1996 Started attending Park Cities
Presbyterian Church.
1996 Graduated from University of Illinois
with a Master of Science degree.
1997 Transferred to Austin, TX by ObjectSpace
1997 Started attending Redeemer Presbyterian
Church. Later joined it.
1997 My father died.
1999 Stayed in Denver for a few months taking
care of my Mom.
2000 KLA-Tencor Corporation bought Austin
division of ObjectSpace, Inc. Became
a Senior Software Engineer with KLA-
Tencor.
2000 Met Teresa, who later became my wife.
2001 Laid off from KLA-Tencor.
2001 Earned Cambridge Certificate in English
Teaching to Adults (CELTA).
2001 My mother died.
2002 Held various jobs including teaching
English to Mexican immigrants,
developing on an on-line survey for
children, doing assembly line work,
helping a photographer.
2002 Visited Teresa in her native Malaysia,
where she was trying to start a
business (she has spent most of the
last 24 years in the US).
2003 Started working for the IRS on a
seasonal basis as a Data Transcriber.
2003 Married Teresa in May.
2003 Had a contract to record my voice in
Spanish (speaking--not singing!).
2004 Went to Malaysia to meet more of
Teresa's family.
2005 Went to Chicago and met long-lost
relatives.
2006 Teresa and I visited Turkey for about
10 days. Spent time in Istanbul and
Ankara (and the beautiful bus ride
in between). Istanbul is fantastic!
2006 Earned "permanent" status as an IRS
employee.
2006 Got a job as a Computer-Based Training
Programmer in the IRS.
2006 Took accounting catch-up course at
Austin Community College.
2007 Took course in Individual Taxation.
2007 30th High School Reunion. Great fun.
