Today's Featured Biography
Perry Norflus
Since graduating from BMHS, there have been a multitude of changes in my life, with the two biggest and best being those of meeting then marrying my wife, and the birth of our son. Those two accomplishments have made me a very wealthy man in their own rights. But besides those two feats, there has been my relocation to The Sunshine State back in 1986 on a business proposition that never panned out. The move to Naples led to my wife entering my life shortly thereafter in 1987, with marriage following one year later in 1988. From there, we moved to the Orlando area when Kathleen transferred to the University of Central Florida to complete her Engineering degree.
The nineties were quite interesting for the both of us, with Kath leaving Engineering School before graduating, in order to jump into the construction industry yet again, starting her own General Contractor Company and me starting-up my own Italian-Ice business. While both businesses grew at a rapid pace, with Zach's birth in March of 1998, we quickly needed to decide how we were going to manage our family properly in the months and years to follow.
In late 1999, we agreed that I would shut down my Italian Ice business, and from that day forward until the end of 2004, I ran operations of the construction company, while Kath focused on Design, Engineering of projects, and the actual Heavy-Lifting of running the field operations; building Custom homes, additions, and restaurants. Things improved in our business until both the building-boom of 2003, and then the hurricanes of '04. Once Hurricane Charlie managed to rip through Orlando, and our home-town of Winter Park, there was not enough labor-force to go round. Small companies like ours were forced out of business for lack of ability absorb and pay "market" prices for labor.
With that, another chapter in my life closed, and yet another one opened...Mr. Mom then entered: Stage-Right!
