Today's Featured Biography
Donald Jackson
I did not graduate with the class; I left school in September 1976 to join the United States Army. After 22 years of active service I retired in 1998. I served overseas in Germany (twice), Korea (three times) Okinawa, Japan, Fort Lewis (Tacoma (I ran into Derrick Pringle there)) Washington, Fort Hood, Texas, and Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
In 1983 I parachuted into the island of Grenada with the 2nd/75th Ranger Battalion during the US invasion. In December of 1989, I was a Communications Sergeant in the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) when I made nighttime parachute jump into Panama with the 82nd Airborne Division. And, again in 1990 – 1991 teams from the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) were deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Desert Shield/ Desert Storm. After Desert Storm I returned to Okinawa, Japan then to Berlin, Germany and back to Fort Bragg North Carolina where I retired on June 1, 1998.
After retirement I stayed in Fayetteville, North Carolina for two years then moved back to D.C. I began my civilian career in Information Technology supporting Y2K projects and working in IT support and on Help Desks at The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and Ericsson. I changed directions from network engineering to Information Security in 2002, when I enrolled in courses and training to boost my knowledge of network and computer security.
I met my wife Alissa and in 2006 enrolled in the Computer Science degree program at the University of Maryland. While I was on active duty I did manage to get my GED and earn an Associate Arts degree in General Education. We left D.C. in 2007 and moved to Minnesota where we live in the northern suburbs of Minneapolis. Before leaving D.C., I earned an Undergraduate Certificate in Information Assurance from UM. In 2009 I completed studies at Metropolitan State University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Assurance and Data Security.
Currently, I work for General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT).

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
