Today's Featured Biography
Mike Vasquez
Cannot believe twenty years have passed since last smelling that awful foulness lingering throughout the Annex, remember that nonsense? No wonder I kept crashing during the simulator portion of Driver Ed. Since graduation, just once (and not since) I walked the halls of Morton East. Some time in the early 90s, I visited Mrs. Carter, but she was no longer Mrs. Carter. She married one of our gym teachers. She was so cool. What have I been doing since 18 years old? After East, I attended MC State Central....that's Morton College located on Central. After two years of that ridiculousness, I needed change. I joined the Marines. After four years of that BS, I returned and earned a BA in music and arts management from Columbia College. I went to work for Polygram Records as a college radio promotion rep. After a few years of that foolishness, I realized what I wanted to do since Gus Jackson's Sophomore English class....teach English. When that joy hit me, I was 28. I entered the English graduate program at UIC, but stumbled after one year. Jody and I understood marriage wasn't for us. I drifted thereafter. Seven years later, at age 35, teaching inspiration returned, and here I am now, in the final semester.....student teaching. Did any of you become teachers? Music was (is) my true love. I wanted to be in U2 (and still do) during high school. I remember one day Mr. Jackson told us he had U2 tickets for that night at the Rosemont Horizon. I offered him 40 bucks for one, he said "doubt it." My best friends at East were Gene Tracey and Joe Hamilton. I last saw Gene at his New Year's Eve party in 2000. I miss him. Hamilton and I remained in touch all these years. I live in Colorado now, near Denver. I don't ski or snowboard or any of that craziness, but I hike and climb and camp. You Class of 88ers should not hesitate to correspond. I believe most of you liked me so I'm expecting at least some responses. Today is January 28, 2008. Reunion time comes in seven months and I'll be there. The DJ or band better play some Modern English, The Cure, Violent Femmes, The Smiths, Duran Duran, and my boys, U2, but he better not play any Winger or Cyndi Lauper or any of that nonsense. Remember....never is it too late to do anything.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
