The class of LP 1960 met the evening of August 13th at Mr. Salsa’s in Oglesby and enjoyed a Mexican Fiesta. It was extremely hot and raining that evening, but no one noticed . On the inside the room was filled with excitement with classmates greeting classmates with hugs, kisses and warm handshakes. There was much talking and laughter as classmates moved around the room. Everyone enjoyed reconnecting, chatting and revisiting moments of the past.
Saturday morning we met at the High School for a tour of the hallowed halls of LP. Much had changed around the school, yet so much remained the same. One couldn’t help but have a twinge of nostalgia as we walked around the school with our friends as we did 50 years ago. It was a great trip down memory lane.
Saturday evening we gathered at Oak Ridge Country Club. There were more hugs and handshakes as everyone became reacquainted. Cameras were flashing and everyone continued to reminisce about what has happened over the last 50 years. A favorite topic was “grandchildren”.
Everyone then took a breath to enjoy a wonderful buffet. However, while everyone was dining, the room was alive with conversation and the sound of glasses coming together in a toast.
The disc jockey warmed up his equipment and the dancing began. A favorite dance was “The Stroll” which everyone did quite well. We may be old folks now, but everyone danced with the same energy and enthusiasm we enjoyed 50 years ago.
It was a sad moment when we gave thought to the 72 classmates we lost on the journey to this point in time. Dr. Kent Hess gave a prayerful talk in memory of those who are no longer with us.
Jerry Orlandini gave thanks and praise to the committee chairpersons, Sandy Stergulz, Karen Gehm and Mary Joyce Walters. Classmates echoed his comments with applause in appreciation for not only our 50th reunion, but also the many reunions they have organized in the past.
The magical evening drew to an end and Classmates bid fond farewells to their friends of yesteryear to return to their current walk in life. As we left, however, we hold in our hearts still another memory - that of our a fun filled and memorable 50th Class Reunion.
Until we meet again…………………Be happy, be healthy and God bless us all.

Today's Featured Biography
Mary Jo Zens Kotecki
I am a life long resident of the Illinois Valley, but that's OK. I always say when returning home from our travels "be it ever so humble, there is no place like LaSalle-Peru."
I began my working career literally the day after graduation at Illinois Bell Telephone Company. I then held two secretarial jobs until 1969 when I joined the staff of Peru Federal Savings Bank. I retired in 2002 from the bank after working there for 33 years. I began as a teller and retired as the corporate secretary. I now enjoy doing volunteer work at our church and I belong to several women's clubs which manage to keep me very busy.
I married my high school sweetheart in 1961.
Although we do not have children, Joe and I are blessed that we have been able to share in the lives of our nieces and nephews. They are like our children too.
Looking back over the last 50 years, I would have to say that we have been happy, healthy, and thankful for all our wonderful family and friends. And that is my wish for all my classmates... That everyone will enjoy good health, happiness, peace, and the love of family and friends.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
