Janet Crum Balsley

After graduating from Purdue in 1974, I began teaching at Noblesville High School. There I met my best friend, Jim Balsley. After both of us earned our masters degree from Ball State, we married in 1979. I have been teaching Spanish, and Jim has taught middle school math in Noblesville for 36 years. Through the years I have sponsored several different clubs and groups, and have been the chairperson of the World Language Department for 26 years. Jim coached varsity tennis for over 20 years. We have been fortunate to teach with some wonderful colleagues and have taught hundreds of outstanding students, some who have ties with Clinton Central. No definite plans for retirement, but it’s always an option.
We have two sons. Patrick is 26 and is our athlete. He played almost every sport available to him through his school years. He was fortunate to play Lacrosse for Briarcliffe College in Long Island, NY, and at Ball State University. Currently he is the director of team sales for Empire Lacrosse and will be the assistant Lacrosse coach at Ball State next year. Nick is 23 and is our hard worker. He worked at the local library, pet store, and grocery store growing up. He helped build a local church and worked with a group called Radical House that feeds the homeless in Indianapolis. Currently he does all the media and IT for Hamilton Life Center, a new church in Noblesville. His paying job is as a technical support specialist for the corporate office of Finish Line.
Jim and I both come from large extended families and we enjoy spending time with them as much as possible. We like to spend time together, talk, be outside, watch sports, and read. We both are very grateful that we grew up surrounded by such great role models, people who helped each other, had great faith, and enjoyed the simple things in life.
