Today's Featured Biography
Rusty Hawkins
I graduated from Wheaton College in the Chicago suburbs in 1999. I met my wife, Kristi, at Wheaton and after she graduated in 2000 we moved out to Bozeman, Montana to attend grad school at Montana State University. I got my Master's degree in American history in 2002. We stayed in Bozeman until the summer of 2003 when we moved to Boston to run a literacy program for second and third grade students in inner-city public schools. We were only in New England for one year before we moved to Houston, Texas (honestly, one of the crappiest cities in the country) in the fall of 2004 so I could go back to school. I'm in the final stages of getting my PhD in American history with an emphasis on religion and race in the 20th century South from Rice University. My wife and I became parents on April 19, 2007 with the birth of our son, Caleb James. He's pretty incredible and parenthood has proven to be great. 1/2011 Update: PhD is done. Moved to Marion, IN in 2009 for assistant professor of history at Indiana Wesleyan University. Second son, Micah Paul, born 4/2009.
