Today's Featured Biography
Jim Dukes
Graduated from SE in May 1966 and married Connie Dauffenbach of East in June 1966. Two eldest sons born in Wichita, KS. Youngest son born in St. Joseph, MO. Eldest daughter born in Washington, D.C. Youngest daughter born in La Plata, MD. Father retired from USAF at McConnell AFB in 1965 and lived remainder of life in Wichita with mother until her death in 1981 and his in 1991. Both buried at Hillside Cemetery near WSU. Wife's father was an attorney with offices on Market St. who owned the Cowboy Motel on East 54 near the old David's store. Mother operated motel. Both parents lived out lives in Wichita. Worked at Cessna Aircraft Military Division from 1966-mid 1967. Became manager trainee at K-Mart East shoe dept. in mid 1967, later managing in Lincoln, NE; Independence, MO; Merriam, KS; St. Joseph, MO; and Omaha, NE. I joined the US Secret Service EPS in 1970 and was immediately sent to Wash. D.C. for five years. Transferred to US Customs Patrol in 1975 and sent to Brownsville, TX for ten years. Transferred to San Antonio, TX as Special Agent in 1985. Customs was merged with Immigration in 2003 and became ICE. Retired as Sr. Special Agent in 2005 and remained in San Antonio, TX. Wife, a successful realtor in San Antonio,has two brothers who live in Wichita. Most of my social friends were from the "teen club" at McConnell AFB. The only teacher that I recall from SE was English teacher "Mr." Harrison (never knew full names in those days)who was an excellent English teacher. I was an "invisible" student who will not be remembered by anyone, but I enoyed my time at SE.
