Phillip "Shannon" Thompson

If you could care less about the last 20 years of my life just skip to the final paragraph....

After graduating MCHS I attended MSU in the fall of 1985. I graduated in the fall of 89 with a business degree and promptly moved to Austin, Texas (all I possessed was a one way ticket, an old suit case and $48 to my name). I was fortunate to have my high school bud Rob Ray, who had been living in Austin since 87, to help me get started (Rob, I think I still have one of your ties. :-). You need to get back in touch with me dude!).

My first job in Austin was as an assistant manager for a retail store. I hated the job however, there was one bright spot. I did meet my future wife when she stopped in to exchange some items one day. It’s amazing what can happen when you over credit a pretty redhead for her returned items!

Not too long afterwards I began a new career in the Wireless Industry. In 1991 the wireless industry was just beginning to take off. In the first 5 years I was promoted to 4 different positions. Eventually the company I worked for was purchased by AT&T and became AT&T Wireless (AWS). Oh, I should also mention that somewhere in there I did marry said redhead from above. :-) My career continued to grow until I eventually became Retail Operations Manager for the Central Texas region of AWS. In 1998 my wife gave birth to our first child Ethan. Around this same time my wife, with a partner, started her own recruiting firm.

Eventually, AWS began to struggle and as a result I and most of my immediate colleagues were laid off in 2003. Three months later I landed an entry level business sales position with Verizon Wireless. In 2004 my wife gave birth to our second child Kaelyn (yet another redhead in my life. :-) ) By 2006 I worked my way up to the Major Account Manager position working with and supporting the largest business entities in the greater Austin area. I soon grew tired of the corporate grind and in mid Sept. 07 I quit VZW and joined my wife’s firm. It’s a lot more fun to go to work these days!

I spend most of my spare time coaching my son in either baseball or basketball and playing house with my young daughter. Playing house with her mom is pretty fun to. :-)
