Today's Featured Biography
Robert Kaiser
Rob is the Assistant Managing Editor for News at the San Antonio Express-News and the paper's first writing coach. He oversees the Sunday paper and special projects.
Kaiser, who has been a journalist for 21 years, joined the Express-News in September 2003 after working for 6 1/2 years at the Chicago Tribune, where he specialized in writing Sunday magazine pieces, narrative series and other in-depth stories, primarily for the front page. He also covered a number of major national stories for the Tribune, including the homecoming of Jessica Lynch; fatal school shootings in Kentucky and Oregon; the Confederate Flag controversy; and the hardships on reservists of the Iraq war.
Kaiser’s four-part Chicago Tribune series on the shooting death of a Chicago cop was anthologized in Best Newspaper Writing 2000. His two-part narrative about life in Sears Tower after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, was the centerpiece of a package of stories about the attacks that the Tribune published a year after the World Trade Center fell.
Before joining the Tribune in May 1997, Kaiser was a columnist and editorial writer for The Cincinnati Enquirer. Before that he was a reporter and editor at the Herald-Leader, his hometown paper. He started his career at The (Elizabethtown) News-Enterprise.
Kaiser lives in San Antonio with his wife, Laurie, and their two sons, Sawyer and Jacob.
