Today's Featured Biography
Leonard Pasquini
May the Clipper Ship Sail Forever
I'm very please to say that as I look back on my life growing up with my Oxon Hill High School class mates, many of the fondest memories are of my childhood friends. We all went different ways after leaving OHHS. After I left Oxon Hill my greatest happiness is that I met and married a wonderful lady of Irish descent from Massachusetts. We met while I was attending the submarine school in New London, CT. My wife was a school teacher then, and has continued to teach kindergarten during our 42 years of marriage. We have a wonderful life of three married children (2 sons and a daughter) and seven grand children (4 boys and 3 girls).
Life comes full circle now when I see my children experiencing many of the wonders of married life that my wife and I experienced, and I'm sure that our parents experienced looking back on all of us. My mother is the matriarch of the Pasquini family at the age of 94.
Regarding my professional career, I retired in 2003 as the Corporate Executive Vice President and a part owner of an engineering consulting firm headquartered in Albuquerque, NM with offices world wide. My former firm, Los Alamos Technical Associates, Inc. engages in contract project management primarily for the US Department of Defense, the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency.
I started my professional career in 1966 as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy where I served in the nuclear submarine service after receiving my undergraduate degree in Engineering Mechanics (Physics) from the Pennsylvania State University. After serving five years on active duty I went back to Penn State in 1971 and received a masters degree in Nuclear Engineering in 1974. I stayed in the naval reserves for the next 18 years and retired from the naval reserves in 1989 at the grade of Commander.
I now keep myself busy as an adjunct professor for the Environmental Policy and Management Department educating students pursuing their masters degrees at the University of Denver. I'm trying to pass along the many lessons (both good and bad) that I learned to the next generation of engineers and business leaders. Along with teaching, I've been coaching soccer for the last 34 years at the youth level and high school varsity.
I regret that I was not able to attend any of our OHHS reunions to reunite with all of my OHHS friends. I was either out to sea with the navy or moving around the country every 3 years for 30 years with the only two private industry companies that I worked for in my 38 year working career. Nevertheless, over the years since we graduated in 1962, I've been able to visit many of my friends when on business trips to Washington, D.C. or stay in contact by email or phone calls. I look forward to every phone call, email and Christmas card that I receive from past OHHS friends.
Perhaps we'll have the opportunity to visit together in the future, but if our paths do not cross again, know that my memories of all my OHHS class mates will stay in my thoughts, heart and prayers for all of you.
Very Sincerely,
Leonard (Len)
