Lorie Luttman Harrell

After graduation I married John C. Slack from the Class of 1981. John joined the military in 1982. We had one son, Andrew born in 1983. After John completed AF basic training in San Antonio, Texas, we moved to Witchita Falls, Texas. This was his trainging base for six months. We were then assigned to Oklahoma City, OK. Where our first & only child was born. We lived there for about two years and took a short training assignment in Biloxi, Miss. We experienced our first hurricane(Elena). I will take a snow storm any day! We lived in Biloxi for about six months and then moved to Colorado Springs, Co. John was assigned to Cheyenne Mtn. & Peterson AFB. We purchased a home near Pete Field. I became a correctional officer for El Paso County Sheriff Department in 1988. John and I divorced in 1989.
I moved to Gulf Breeze, Florida prior to my divorce in 89'. Gulf Breeze, FL is near Pensacola. Yes, back to hurricane alley!
I became a manager at a local McDonald's in the summer of 1990. I was promoted and moved to a new store built near Navarre Beach, FL which is about half hour drive to Destin, FL. Most beautiful beaches I have ever seen!I worked two jobs as a single mom. I managed during the day and waitressed at night. I continued my education with Pensacola Junior College, FL and McDonald's management schools in Louisiana.
My son became a karate nut! He received his 2nd degree black belt before he was 8 years old and competed and won several first place trophies in sparring (they wore protective gear and fought with full contact). I met my future husband John Harrell(another spouse with first name John??). Anyone that knows me, knows my brother's name is John and so is my father's. My husband was transferred in from one of the seven stores that our owner owned.
We were engaged in 1993 and married December 17, 1994. We bought our first restaurant in October of 1995 and moved to Hickory, NC. It was the hardest but best thing we have ever done to secure our retirement and work for ourselves. We moved into a new home in 1997. I graduated from a 2yr. college in May 2002, the same year my son graduated from High school.
Andrew has been working in the family business since he was 13. He is now our Store Manager of our restaurant. He went to Hamburger University in OakBrook, Ill. in February 2007. He is in the Owner/Operator, 2nd generation program. He wants to buy our store some day when we retire. He just bought a new home in May 2007. We are proud of him!
Right now we love to travel and you will see form www.myspace.com/wthsclassof1980 web page that we like to hike. Our favorite travel is to Mexico, Belize and Guatemala. Our goal is to hike as many ruins that we can in our lifetime. We have a time share in Cancun and go twice a year.
We are planning to go out West soon and see all the Anastazi ruins in the four corners area.
