Today's Featured Biography
Patricia Binns Barrus
After high school, I spent a little time at Normandale before I headed off to BYU in Utah. During my sojourn there, I took up the cause of the emerging women’s movement in the 70’s and chaired one of the first women’s conferences (it is now in its 30th year), took some time off to travel (to Australia and New Zealand), came back and worked full time for a bit, headed back to BYU, eventually met my husband, Brad and oh, also earned a degree in Organizational Communications.
After we were married, we lived the Bay area in California where I had a great time working for Apple Computer during the coming forth of the Mac. My husband decided to change career directions and headed back to school for a law degree, so we headed up to the Portland, Oregon area. By the end of his law school, I had given birth to 3 boys in 2.5 years (no twins).
Brad went to work for Intel, Corporation after law school and shortly after that they moved us to the Phoenix area. So happy to have sun after the rainy NW weather! Five years, and I more child later (this time a daughter), another Intel work move took us up to Utah. We spent 13 happy years there raising our children. My sister, Sue lives in Utah too, so that was fun for me.
In 2009 another work related move compliments of Intel and we are back in the Portland, Oregon area. Our 3 young adult boys decided to stay in Utah for work and school. Our 15 year daughter moved with us, but after a year headed back to Utah to finish high school there. So, we went from a full and busy home to an empty nest rather quickly and it is a big adjustment.
I spend my time these days parenting by phone and taking numerous trips to Utah or anywhere else I can. When I am in Oregon, I try to endure the rainy weather by working on family history. I love to learn and read quite a bit of non-fiction. I am currently interested in the cutting edge research on the brain and brain mapping, social science and change, and studying scripture.
My Mom passed away in 2006. So miss her! I was fortunate to make many trips back to Minnesota to be with her in the years preceding her death My other 2 sisters both still live in Minnesota: Sheila (Grant) in Eden Prairie and Laura (Pedersen) in Chaska. My Dad lives in Chaska now. My brother Bob, who graduated from Lincoln in ‘69, lives in the Orlando, Florida area.
Would love to see everyone at the reunion, but I will not be able to get back there this time. Have fun!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
