Dave Johnson

After graduation from Denfeld, I attended UMD for 2+ years and graduated from Duluth Business University. Enlisted in the Army then(information separate). After the service, I managed Walgreen and White Drug stores in MN and SD for 6 years. In 1976, I began a 28 year career in healthcare with Brookings Hospital and Brookview Manor in Brookings, South Dakota working initially as the CFO, and the last 18 years as CEO. While continuing to work, I (finally!!) furthered my education, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and a Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration . I was a licensed long term care administrator, and also served interim positions as the administrator/director of the United Retirement Center and East Central Mental Health and Chemical Dependency Center in Brookings. I retired in 2004 and never looked back.

I married Sharon L. Headley in 1968, shortly before leaving for Vietnam. We have a son and daughter with families totaling 15 down to great grandchildren. I’ve always enjoyed live musical entertainment, and Sharon and I continued our enjoyment of dancing over our married life. I was a “closet” drummer and karaoke singer (you learn to do strange things in retirement to not run the risk of returning to the work world!!), and country and 50’s-60’s music have always had a place in our non-working lives. We have been fortunate to spend winters at our home in Bullhead City, AZ/Laughlin, NV so we could dance and listen to music most nights of the week, attend concerts, and I could work on my golf game (which over the years hasn’t improved much). Took up line dancing as an aerobic challenge in recent years, and focus on enjoying life for whatever time remains!!
