Today's Featured Biography
Jim Richards Jr
With some time on my hands and stuck in the office for the day, I will try and give a little recap of my life up to present.
It might be long and boring, but my journey in life has been exciting and am still enjoying the prospects of what each new day will bring. Some you, my classmates might enjoy this little bio.
Soon after graduation in Spring of 1957, Jerry Carlson (Carly Bomb) and I took off a grand adventure, sort of a gap summer with a trip to Europe. We took a student ship operated by Holland America Lines and it was an older ship that used to do the run to the Dutch East Indies. Pete Seeger was on board and everynight he would gather on the foredeck and play the classic folk tunes, lots of Woody Guthrie, and songs I had never heard before and it was pretty magical.
Landing in Rotterdam we purchased small 49 cc motorbikes that would run on the flat, but we would haft to peddle on the uphills. On a budget of less than $5 a day, Europe at this time was so cheap and so much to see. We headed south, and ended up in Copenhagen where we sent the mopeds back to Rotterdam and then hitchhiked the rest of the trip thru Scandinavia and then took the ferry from Bergen to Newcastle and hitchhiked back to Rotterdam for the return trip.
I went with $700 and when met by my parents in New York, I gave them back $300. I think Suzanne Joslin was also there to greet me in New York.
Off now to Dartmouth College, a few days late but it all worked out, and spent 4 fantastic years there.
I played hockey there and we had some great teams and mostly from Minnesota. We were Eastern Champs in 1960.
I was a Geology Major and between my Junior and Senior year I spent a working season in northern Labrador. Totally remote, lived in a tent and there were four of us, and four drillers who where French and the cook was French. Had some great Quebec food cooked over a campfire for over 3 1/2 months. My tent mate was a Doug Torp from Duluth and he went back to work for the same company the next summer (1961) and the plane went down and not found until 50 years later.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
