Today's Featured Biography
Edna Blake Headland
After graduation I attended The Swedish Hospital School of Nursing in downtown Minneapolis and graduated in 1960 passed State Boards and became an RN. While I was at Swedish my brother Larry was accidently killed while serving in the Navy in Korea. This event changed my life and gave me a life long ministry reaching out to friends who loose loved one. From Swedish I went directly to to Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland, Oregon and from there to then to the Summer Institute of Linguistics at the University of North Dakota to prepare for Missionary work with Wycliffe Bible Translators. The next phase of training was Jungle Camp in Southern Chiapas and following that more linguistics training. I met Paul Headland while studing and we were married December 18, 1962.
July 16, 1963 we arrived in Colombia, South America where we were assigned to work with the Tunebo (now called Uwa) Indians. We learned their language, made an alfabet and books for them to learn to read, and analyzed the grammar of the language. Finally we translated the New Testament and a summary of the Old Testament into their language.
In 1966 we adopted our daughter Joy in Colombia and in 1968 we adopted our son Ron. After living 5 years in a leaf hut like the Tunebo we build a small wood frame house.
In 1989 after finishing our work with the Uwa/Tunebo we moved to Dallas, Texas where the International Linguistics Center is located. We have worked in various aspects of the World Wide Bible Translation movement here. Most of the time we have been training young people who want to go to some of the remaining 2500 languages that still need Bible Translation. I took advantage of this time to finish a Masters degree in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing on Spanish and Linguistics.
In 2002 we were reassigned to Colombia and for the next three years alternated three months there and three months in Dallas. There are many Latin American young people who want to be involved in the mission movement and in Bible Translation. We have concentrated on helping train these young people. We have also trained young people in Mexico, Guatemala and Costa Rica.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
