Marsha Nelson
After 45 years in public education in Wisconsin, as a Middle School English teacher, a Department of Public Instruction Christa McAuliffe Fellow, a Middle School Learning Specialist, a Mary D. Bradford high school assistant principal and a Career and Technical Education Coordinator, I now work part time supervising student teachers for a local university. (although always looking for another side hustle). Have fond memories of WTGN -high school band, football & basketball games, Debate, One Act Plays, W-Hi Star reporter, playing "ditchem", going to Michaels with the girls and shining rats at the local dump. Regret that there were no girls' sports cuz I could have been a contender on the golf course!!
I have one talented daughter, Rachel McPhee, who is an actor in NYC. Her one woman play, "Dead Shot Mary" about the first female detective, Mary Shanley, in the NYC police department played off Broadway in the fall of '16 with rave reviews and a large write up on the New York Times. Her British husband, Rob Benson, also an actor and playwright wrote it for her specifically. I visit them and their Tuxedo cat, Romeo, frequently for all that is Broadway - meaning the plays and musicals! I can recommend if you need some ideas!
Have had some fun and still do in my life so far. Note that working was fun to me! Directed middle school plays, acted in community theater shows- favorite was playing the part of a urologist, designed costumes, traveled to Georgia, (former Soviet Union) in a musical revue, placed 3rd in a 5K race, learned some interesting stuff, taught some important college courses, traveled to Scandinavia and England on a Rick Steves' tour, took Improv classes, and made some great friends along the way.
New addition is my almost 3 year old grandson, Reggie. So much fun to play with and watch him grow.
