Today's Featured Biography
Judy Bailey Widener
After graduation in 1969, I attended Penn Valley Community College for about a year and a half, taking mostly secretarial courses. Then I got a job as a clerk typist, first in KC, and then later out at Richards-Gebaur AFB in Grandview. I worked there for a few years, and that's where I met and married my husband, Gene, in 1974. Gene was in the AF, so over the next 19 years, we moved several times for his active duty assignments, living in South Carolina, Germany, Oklahoma, Turkey, California, and then finally Florida, where he retired from the AF after a 20-year career. During all those years of moving around, we had 3 sons, and I worked most of the time at whatever AFB we found ourselves at, so they weren't great jobs. I got tired of that eventually, so I started taking college classes at night, and got my Bachelor's degree (in Sociology) and Master's degree (in Psychology). Sadly, all the turmoil and stress of all that caused the marriage to end in divorce in 1998. I still work for the AF, but now my career is in the Contracting field at Keesler AFB, Mississippi. Keesler is located in Biloxi, and many of you may have heard of a little bad weather in 2005 called "Hurricane Katrina." Yes, that's right where I live. My house survived, thank Heaven, but it was still tough living in this area for a few years after that. The Gulf Coast is coming back to life again now, and it's a beautiful place to live once again. I'm still single and thinking of retiring maybe within the next year or two. Hopefully, I'll be able to travel some after retirement, because after all those years of moving around, it's sometimes difficult for me to stay still! I get wanderlust very easily!!!
