Stephanie Abbott Schmitt
I graduated and went to UMSL for a year, and found that it just wasn't for me. I was also working, and so, I just continued to work. I started out working in a bakery, Tiffani's, at Northwest Plaza, then went on to be a dispatcher for a towing company. I then got a job working as a secretary for the St. Louis Association for Retarded Children. I stayed there about a year, but didn't really like it, so went back to dispatching. I stayed there until becoming a telephone operator for Contel. I really liked that job, and it was while I was working there that I met my wonderful hubby, Dan. We met at the Shady Grove in O'Fallon, and were married 3 months later. We had our first child, Jessica, in 1983. She suffered a brain injury at birth which resulted in severe brain damage, and she died when she was 4 1/2 years old. During that time in our lives, we had two wonderful sons. In 1987 we moved to Troy, out to "the country". We have a nice little ranch home, on 3 acres, and another ranch home across the street, on an additional 3 acres, that my baby sister, Catrina, lives in, with her beautiful family. My oldest son, Nathan, got married last year, and moved to Kansas City. My youngest, Jacob, just graduated with a degree in Game and Web Page Design, and is engaged to marry next year. I love to garden, bake, can, make candy, and read. I love music, animals, entertaining friends and family, and politics. I have a wonderful family that treats me like a queen. Our family also includes 3 dogs, 5 cats, 1 mouse, 3 turtles, and at this moment 1 large red-tailed boa, and an alligator. Those last 2 will be moving to Kansas City in the very near future. All in all, I live a very quiet, simple life that I love. I have truly been blessed.
