Today's Featured Biography
James Dettor
After graduation in 1981, I attended NW MS Junior College(now aka NW MS Community College). I obtained my Associates Degree in Civil Engineering Technology.
I remained enrolled at NW to pursue Pre-Engineering. I completed pre-engineering but was not able to continue my education goal.
I began working at the "bus shop" at NW at driver, mechanic, etc.
I then went to work as Assistance Mgr for Freds in Senatobia.
After that, I went to work in Oxford, MS for Precision Engineering as surveyor tech.
In 1988, I entered active duty (Army) for the AGR Program. I retired from active duty on December 31st, 2007 at the rank of Master Sergeant/E8. I had the honor to train and serve with America's finest. "Freedom has a price the protected never know".
In 2002, while still on active duty, I finally obtained my Bachelor's of Science Degree with minor subjects in social psychology.
My wife, Christina and I now live in Byram, MS.
I am now working back with the military on contract.
My wife, Christina, is the District Director of Human Resources at Hinds Community College. She is also a 2nd degree black belt in Sho-hei Ryu.
We opened up a karate school here in Byram where she is the chief instructor. Dettor's School of Okinawan Karate.
This October (2008), I will test for my 1st degree black belt(Nidan) and I plan on getting my teacher certification to become an official teaching Sensei.
We have lost a few of our fellow classmates as well as parents of our classmates.
For those that may not know, my father past away this past November 3rd, 2008 from congestive heart failure. He lived to the young age of 84.
The week prior to his death, God gave me a great gift to spend time with him. We were able to communicate with each other of our love for each other. For that, I thank God each and every day. My mother, "Ms Ann" still lives there in Panola County. She's still getting around.
God has been good to me and my family and I hope He has been good to each of you.
