Cornelius Powell
Lieutenant Colonel Cornelius Powell (Retired)
Lieutenant Colonel Powell is a native of Pickens, Mississippi. He was commissioned a second Lieutenant in Military Police upon graduating from the Mississippi Military Academy in 1986.
His military education includes the Military Police Basic and Advanced courses, the Adjutant Generals Career Course, Combined Arms Services School, the Command and General Staff College. He holds a baccalaureate degree in Criminal Justice and Correctional Services from Jackson State University.
Lieutenant Colonel Powell has served in a variety of command and staff positions. He commanded companies in the 112th Military Police Battalion, taking the 162nd Military Police Company to combat in Operation Desert Storm, Saudi Arabia. He served as the Military Police Team Chief with the 87th Division Exercise at Camp Shelby, Mississippi; Postal Inspector, Postal Operations Director, Theater Postal Operations Director (Forward, Kuwait)) with the 3rd Personnel Command; Assistant Chief of Staff G1, Postal Division Chief, 3rd / U.S. Army Central, Ft McPherson, GA; Senior Logistical Civil Augmentation Program (LOGCAP) Officer 402nd Army Field Support Brigade, Army Material Command, Camp Buehring, Kuwait and a number of staff positions with the 3rd Human Resources Sustainment Command, retiring as the Deputy Director. Lieutenant Colonel Powell retired in 2014 with thirty four and a half (34.5) years of service, including five (5) combat tours in the Middle East.
Lieutenant Colonel Powell’s awards and achievements include the Bronze Star, The Meritorious Service Medal 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster, The Army Commendation Medal 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal 1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster / 1Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster and the National Defense Service Medal 3rd Bronze Star.
Lieutenant Colonel Powell is married to Daphne L. Powell. They have five daughters and two sons.
