Mary Slack McDaniel
How time flies. I just had my 70th birthday, June 5 , and it gave me pause to reflect on my life and how much I have had to be grateful for along life's journey. Since leaving Kalispell and going into the US Navy in 1955 , I have had many experiences and traveled a great deal. I married my first husband in 1956 in Kingsville Texas. David Leib was my fist true love from Kalispell,( more like Eureka and Libby Montana. )Together we had two children, Michael ( now deceased.) and Debbie. We later adopted a boy in Seoul South Korea. His name is Rick. I was married for twenty five years to David, and during this time we were in Texas,on Midway Island;Long Beach California; Lakehurst, NJ; Puerto Rico;Jacksonville, Florida; on Guam; Japan; Lakehurst NJ; Norfolk;Va, and then out of the Navy for David in 1974. We moved to New Zealand and then came back to Kalispell. Four years later we moved to Tucson. Our marriage ended, and this was the start of my new life; back into the Navy ( weekend warrier), and working for top US Insurance companies for the next 25 years.( still licensed.) At the same time and thereafter, I went back to college and graduated with a degree in Special Ed and Rehab which I had worked in while married to Dave. In addition, I had been a substitute teacher on Guam and here in Tucson. I remarried in 1985 to Raymond McDaniel. He worked in construction. We have between us four children living, and eight grand-children.Presently I am retired more or less, but so busy I cannot keep up with myself. I do the usual things; involve myself in neighborhood civic things; work in my church; travel; work with the homeless and Interfaith groups. And most of all pray for and love my grandchildren.
