Today's Featured Biography
James Shoemaker
Jamie Shoemaker grew up in Charlotte, NC and attended West Charlotte High School where he was a 3-time “All-Conference” soccer player. As a senior, he was selected to the North Carolina State Select team playing in the National Tournament. He graduated from The Citadel with a BA in Mathematics. As a varsity soccer player at The Citadel, James was a 3-time “All-Conference” honoree and the first cadet to ever start as a freshman there.
After graduation, Jamie completed a 5 year tour in the US Army with the 10th Mountain Division in Ft. Drum, NY. He served as a Light Infantry Platoon Leader, Battalion Intelligence Officer, and Battalion Assistant Operations Officer; earning the coveted Ranger Tab, Parachutist Badge, the Expert Infantry Badge, a well as being sniper and pathfinder qualified. His biggest highlight in the military was being able to escort, then Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Colin Powell while he toured his unit during field training.
After leaving the military in April, 1992, Jamie joined NationsBank (Now Bank of America) as a Banking Center Manager in Atlanta. While with NationsBank, in 1996, Jamie was an Olympic Volunteer driving for the Australian Olympic Team based in the Olympic Village. In 1997, Jamie left banking to start a small courier company which he kept for 5 years. In 2001, he sold his business and joined Community First Bank in Seneca, SC as Branch Manager. While with the bank, Jamie was elected to the Board of Directors of the local Chamber of Commerce, selected to the Board of the United Way, and was a Committee Chair for the local Relay for Life. In 2007, he relocated to Ocean Isle Beach to be near his parents who retired there in 1997.
Being involved in the communities that he lives and works in are important to Jamie, whose civic activities have included participating as a Loaned Executive with The United Way in Savannah, GA, and Chair of The Bowl for Breath (Cystic Fibrosis) in Atlanta, GA.
Prior to forming Cape Fear Merchant Solutions, Jamie worked with Security Savings Bank as the branch manager of the Sunset Beach Office. He attends Seaside United Methodist Church where he has served as Youth Leader, is a member of the United Methodist Men, and a member of the Choir and Praise Team as well as a featured soloist in their bi-annual Cantatas. In addition to being an Executive Board Member (President) of the North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce, Jamie is also chair of the Chamber’s Ambassador Program, as well as serves on the Board for The Providence Home (The Brunswick County Family Emergency Teen Shelter).
