Jeannie Johnston Martin

The Good Lord has been so influential in my life and continues to guide me as I see the latter years. Memories of my most devoted husband, Paul, who left much too soon, are constantly with me. And my son, Jeffery, who left on his own accord some years back, has left a dark hole in my daughter’s and my life. There are some things that just can’t be explained. My constant prayer has been good health and love of Our Lord to him.

My grand children are far from children now. Johnny, 24 years old, graduate from the University of Washington, is working as he decides which direction life wants him to take next. Chelsea, my granddaughter graduated this June from the University of Washington, is working this summer and will enter her Masters program in the fall.

I am still enamored with traveling!! My more recents trips have carried across Canada by train with a group. It was full of spectacular scenery and a delightful group of travelers. My trip to China and Tebet provided many memories including the panda bears without a care in the world, Xian and the Terre-Cotta Soldiers,(so,so many of them), the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, The Great Wall, Cruise on the Yangtze River through the Lesser Three Gorges, and Hong Kong before flying home.

I flew to Warsaw, Poland and met the group for the cruise down the Elbe River. Prague and Warsaw are such beautiful cities having experienced major rebuilding since the War. We visited Krakow, Auschwitz feeling so much pain for what happened in these horrible places. Boarding our cruise, we enjoyed Dresden, Meissen,Torgue, and Wittenberg seeing the church, university and home where Martin Luther posted his 95 Thesis and resided during the Reformation and Potsdam where the three leaders, Churchill, Truman, Stalin hammered out the Peace Accord which ended WWII. We continued to Berlin for our final day visiting the Jewish Memorial, the Brandenburg Gate, seeing our US Embassy and remains of the Berlin Wall.

Last summer Chelsea, my granddaughter and Teresa, my daughter, cruised on the tall ship, Royal Clipper down the Mediterranean Sea, around the
boot of Italy to Venice. We took a train trip to Milan and Lake Como for two days before heading home.

This year, Teresa and I flew to Edinburgh, Scotland, rented a car and spent two weeks going all the places we wished. My Great Grandfather came from Ayr (shire) to Wildwood, North Carolina in 1858, built the Wild-wood Presbyterian Church, then built his home while he,his wife and five children
lived in a railroad car. This Great Nation beckons everyone. My many Best Wishes to everyone for Good Health and God Bless You and these United States of America. Jeannie Johnston Martin
