Today's Featured Biography

Arlene McClure Watkins
After graduation, I moved to Omaha and took a job at The Pathology Center, a medical lab. I worked there for 13 years.
I met my husband, Jim, through our churches and married in 1976. He was employed by Radio Equipment Company as an assistant office manager. The company installed a software inventory program sold by a software company out of Kansas City. Eventually, Jim was hired and transferred to Kansas City by Computer Concepts Corporation. He spent over 12 years with them installing and programming their broadcast software.
In 1991, we launched Heritage Computer Consulting & Services, Inc. Our company is a full service computer consulting firm offering customized programming, web development, web hosting, PC and network support. See our website at www.hccsinc.com. We have a commercial software package that makes ID Badges used by schools, colleges and businesses. We also have a software package which associations use to schedule conference meetings. We own a software package used in medical billing. We have been blessed to work with clients from many different industries...from railroads to retail...service businesses to manufacturing. We truly have been blessed to work with many wonderful people.
In 2013, we will move the business into a small office building that Jim & I purchased. It will be nice to be in control of our space…considering that our current landlords have installed a bathroom over our server room and refused to move it.
We have two children. Jennifer, 33, filed for divorce in 2010. She lives with us along with her daughter, Alexis, who is 9 and son, Rylan, who is 6. Alexis is in 3rd grade and loves school. Rylan is in first grade and has some challenges that make learning difficult. Jennifer works for us as administrative secretary but is slated to learn how to manage the business so we can think about slowing down just a little. Our son, James, lost his battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma on April 1, 2015 at the age of 34. Needless to say, we are devastated.
Jim and I spend most of our time at the office usually arriving between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. Several nights a month are dedicated to business related activities such as the Heartland User Group (Access, Web and Windows Freeware) and other marketing activities.
Personal interests include our church (Disciples of Christ) and activities with the grandkids.
Jennifer and I enjoy scrapbooking -- I love taking digital pictures and creating digital scrapbooks. Jennifer enjoys the traditional scrapbooking so we make a great team.
In 2005, my brother was diagnosed with a tennis-ball sized brain tumor, had surgery and made a miraculous recovery. The situation made both of us aware of how many years had slipped by when we allowed the physical distance to keep us apart. We made a greater effort to stay in touch by phone and e-mail. The moral of the story is...always remember to spend time with your family because you never know when a perfectly healthy individual will be diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Unfortunately, the tumor returned in 2011. He lost his battle with the brain tumor in July 2012. We had lost our mother in April 2011; but my brother was not able to attend the funeral.
I hope you enjoy this site. It was developed by a fellow-consultant here in KC.
I look forward to learning where life has taken all of my classmates.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
