Mary Jamrog Coffey

Hope all living classmates of KHS'63 are doing well during this difficult time. My update as of May 2020: Unfortunately, my husband, John passed away in August 2018 of Glioblastoma (Brain Cancer). We were happily married for 52 years. My daughter lives in East Wenatchee, Washington. She and husband, Tom, have two children--Peyton Marielle Paul who is a nurse and Carter Paul who is graduating from high school this June--Drive-by graduation. My son, Mark, lives in Raleigh with his wife, Jenny, and son, Quinn, who will be 12 next week. During the almost 2 years since John's passing, I bought and remodeled a one-level home which is one mile from my son and his family. My "hobby" is renovating--well, not actually doing the work; however, would love to have had that skill. The complete remodel (house was gutted to the studs) was not without its challenges. Of course, it cost more, took longer, and I have to have another crew in to correct their mistakes. I have great documentation that contractor made structural mistakes and am deciding what to do now. For sure, this has to be fixed. My mistake was choosing the wrong company to do the work. Yes, I did check the reputation of the company but at age 75, should I fight this battle or just pay a trusting crew to fix it. Throw in the pandemic and more complications. However, at this time, I still feel I made great choices (except for the last contractor). I am basically very healthy (at this point) and live close (one mile) to Mark and family. I have always been independent but rely greatly on Mark for computer assistance, etc. Mark and family invite me over every evening for dinner. I never refuse as all 3 of them are excellent chefs. They use organic foods--I never had a meal there that I didn't enjoy. Prior to this pandemic, I did quite a bit of traveling. I don't mind staying home if it means safety to my family. I think our world has taken many things for granted. While on daily walks, I do see many friendly smiling faces and drivers who slow down and wave. We haven't stopped to smell the roses enough prior to this. Hope we can survive the health and economic crisis. Would love to see all of you at a 60th reunion. Stay healthy.
