Beth Lucas Pittman

I cut short my time at ISU to explore the Disney Company through the Walt Disney World College Program. Though I intended to return to college, I instead jumped into one Disney program after another--first the Epcot International Fellowship Program, then six months in Disneyland Paris. After that, settled into several years with Epcot Guest Relations, during which I also worked property-wide as a V.I.P. tour guide. I actually got paid to ride all the rides and eat in all the restaurants with celebrities and their kids! I was also sent out to Anaheim for two months to help with the opening of Disney's California Adventure.

I started in on this whole Disney experience because I was fascinated with animation and wanted to get closer to the animators. Well, somewhere in the middle of all of this, I decided to take a little community-arts drawing class taught by one of the Disney artists, and several semesters later, we were engaged. Believe me, this was not the plan when I signed up for the class, but I couldn't be happier.

I was laid off from Disney after 9/11, just in time to turn my attention to full-time parenthood, as my husband was pursuing new animation ventures outside of the Disney studios. Now we have a truly fun and talented 7-year-old daughter, plus another baby on the way. We spend every day under the same roof, living life by our own schedule--mom and daughter homeschooling through the public virtual programs, and dad working upstairs in his studio as a freelance cartoonist.

Although Eddie is by far the more artistically accomplished of the two of us, we have enjoyed collaborating on a couple of projects. One was an animated short, partially produced within Legacy Animation, which he began after Disney closed their Florida studios. This short was actually based on a short story I wrote while at Central! Our latest venture is an all-ages online comic called Red's Planet. It's been going on for a few years now, surpassing two million page views in November 2013, and has even been translated into Portuguese for an online audience in Brazil! Update: At the moment, we're wrapping up a two-year adventure in Southern California, where my husband has been working on the Disney TV series Phineas and Ferb as a writer and story artist.
