Today's Featured Biography
Paula Lemerman
Hello everyone! I see that my "business site" is the business of the day, so I think it is time for me to actually write something useful here. How to sum up 40 years? Yikes.....
I have worked as an associate county counselor for St. Louis County since Feb. 1984. I qualified for retirement last March, but since we have two kids in high school, and enjoy having health insurance, I am still defending the Assessor, everyone's favorite person. I deal with commercial and residential real estate as well as personal property assessment appeals at the State Tax Commission level. The most interesting part of my job (to me!) is getting to tour places like the Chrysler and Ford assembly plants, the "back of the house" operations at big hotels, and unique residential properties.
I met my husband of 20+ years the week after I took the bar exam. He is from Wisconsin, came to STL to attend Washington U., and taught me all about the Green Bay Packers. We are now stockholders, and have taken the kids to summer training camp a couple of times. Lots of fun, sitting in the bleachers, watching Brett Farve in his red t-shirt, sipping a beer, and enjoying much cooler weather. Go Pack!!
Our kids graduated from the Solomon Schechter Day School in St. Louis, and now both attend Crossroads College Preparatory School in the city. Micah is a Sr., and we are trying to be as laid back as possible re. his college search. You can see a picture of my surly teen/sweet kid on the front page of his school's website: http://crossroads-school.org/home.html
We live in a small 1896-built brick home on a 25 x 130' lot in the City of St. Louis,in the Forest Park Southeast neighborhood, which is an interesting place. I bought the house in 1978, in the midst of my organizing days. It has beautiful woodwork and huge, drafty windows, and still needs plastering and painting. UGH! I avoid the interior issues by playing in the shady yard, growing native perennials and vegetables.
I came to St. Louis when I became a VISTA volunteer after I graduated from the U. of Vermont in 1972. After dabbling in neighborhood organizing and low-income housing issues for Legal Services of Eastern Mo. as a paralegal for 8 years, I went to law school at St. Louis U.
I miss the shore, great bagels, excellent deli, and fresh bluefish.
That's all for now---I'd better get back to work. Take care, Paula J.
