Since the 45th Reunion at which time, I had come back from 118 days in Kwait and Jean was within 3 month of by-pass surgery,life has remained interesting for the Taylors. I was able to transfer back into the Miss.National Guard,but I lost out to another friend of mine in the competion to be the State Surgeon. My last military job was Brigade Surgeon for the 631th Art.Brigade. I also tried again,to make my group practice work,but it wasn't doing any better than it was when I left for Kuwait. For that reason, I really wasn't disappointed when I was asked to be mobilized to Camp Shelby,which is located just south of Hattiesburg, for what turned out to be the last assignment of my military career. At this post I was in a spot that allowed me to watch out for the interests of The MS National Guard, the State of MS, and Camp Shelby as well as keeping the Regular Army straight, when they needed it. After all, I was a senior Medical Corp Officer who couldn't be intimated since I knew that I wasn't going to make General and I Knew when either they or Jean had said that I was retiring from the military. They finally retired me on July 1,2005,just after I turned 65. My retirement ceremony was a nice party at which members of my family from as far away as Dallas,Tx and New York came.
This time when I returned to Ripley, I went into Solo practice in my own building,that I love. This is working out much better and I can practice medicine by basically visiting with my friends and using the gifts that parents and my schooling(not the least of which was the Roselle Public School System) had given me, to keep my patients as healthy as I can. The trouble is that you have to convince the world that this is really work. I will probably continue doing this until either the state or the Almighty decides to retire me.
Jean and I went to Belize,to celibrate our 40th Anniversery last October. The flying on this trip convinced us that we didn't want to fly up to NJ in May. For that reason we will be driving up for the reunion.
