Jay Wein

After graduation, I went to Case Institute of Technology and graduated in 1962 with a BS in Metallurgical Engineering. I worked for a year in Cleveland and then got drafted. I chose to enlist in the USAF and went through Officer Training School. My first assignment was at Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, OH. I married a girl from Dayton in 1966 just before transferring to the Philippines and then Okinawa. I finally got out of USAF as a Captain in 1969 and started working at GE Aircraft Engines in Cincinnati, OH. My first wife died in 1974 from a pulmonary embolism during surgery. We had a daughter, 1 1/2, and I was a bachelor father for about 11 years marrying my present wife, Meryl, in 1985. I left GE in 1993 during a downsizing move and did consulting in the aerospace business for the next 10 years finally retiring in 2003. We left Cincinnati in 2000 and split our time between Ogunquit, Maine and Phoenix, Arizona for a few years finally choosing Maine year round in March 2003. I have been doing substitute teaching in the local high school and just love it. This school is actually smaller than ACHS. About 400 students from 9-12.

I became a serious duplicate bridge player while in Cincinnati and competed in National Tournaments for about 10 years. The bridge was not too good in Phoenix or Maine so I only play socially on the internet and go to a major tournament every other year or so when it is in the Boston metro area. I spend some of my spare time in the warm months salt water fishing from shore infrequently catching some striped bass, pollock, flounder, and mackerel. I tried ice fishing in Michigan many years back but dont think I have the ability to do it here in Maine.

I enjoyed the 40 year reunion and would like to attend the 50 year one but have some problems with right hip that do not allow me to drive distances longer than an hour or so without some pain. I am still considering coming if I am able to work through the pain.
