Today's Featured Biography
Patrick Mathews
I grew up in foster care, my natural siblings are Richard ('77) and Amiee ('80)
I left school in '77 with an early admission to Dowling College. I was supposed to take health and PE during my freshman year in order to get my diploma; I didn't, so to this day I still have no HS diploma. Although I left in 77, I'm still considered class of 78. Many of you may remember me as the guy who was always writing music in class instead of paying attention. After dropping out of college, (no degree either, nothing but failure for 46 years on this earth) I bummed around the Island a few years working in very menial jobs (construction as a helper/laborer, restaurants and as a nurses aide). In '84 I joined the army because when I aged out of the foster care system I didn't get any ID, and it was getting hard to find on the books work without ID.
The army was interesting to say the least, I was assigned to Technical Escort Unit, they're part of the Chemical Corps, providing escort services worldwide for nuclear, chemical and biological munitions. I was their supply clerk. Decorated twice, but booted out on a general discharge after two years. I was their battalion 'Soldier of the Year' in 1984, the next year I was a pariah. Go figure.
Anyway, after the Army, I lived in New Jersey for 5 years, was married, and am now seperated. I went to tech school for computer networking, and worked as a computer consultant for the next 13 years. I have lived and worked all over the east coast until 2000, when I moved to Floyd VA. I have been living here semi-retired for over 6 years, supplementing my retirement with CD sales of my original music which I sell in an antique store where I play piano.
