The journey (to-date) from RCK started off at the University of Rochester where I graduated with a BSc in Optical Engineering in 1993. En route, I spent a year abroad studying Islamic Gender Studies and Arabic (for a change) in Cairo, Egypt at the American University in Cairo between 1991 and 1992. The travel bug bit me and after graduating I headed West to California as a hop-off point to Taiwan to teach English to earn bucks to travel. After a year and a half in Taiwan, I met the woman who I eventually married, Laurianne Claase, who is from South Africa (and previously Zimbabwe). I travelled for almost a year, then headed back to Taiwan and Laurianne. After six months more in the classroom, I left to meet up with Laurianne in India. From there we headed to South Africa and settled in Cape Town in 1997. We were married later that year and now stay in Zeekoevlei (Zeekoe means hippopotamus and Vlei means lake in Afrikaans) - where there are actually a herd of hippos living in the lake behind our house. I work in IT as a consulting, specialising in eLearning and Business Intelligence systems/ implementations. Laurianne is a writer and editor, whose book Caught Out: Cricket Match-fixing Investigated, has just been published. Cricket is the colonial version of baseball. Hope to catch up with you in July 2008!
