Today's Featured Biography
Steven (MARK) Apel
I graduated High School after being chased by the Army for Vietnam during my senior year.I went to work out at Vance AFB, yet the Army still wanted to draft me for Vietnam. I eventually went to see an Air Force recruiter and joined the Air Force, 2 weeks later, the Army sent me a draft notice. Since I was already an Air Force person, I reported for basic training and moved on. Lucky to have missed the draft. I stayed in the Air Force till 1980 when I decided to get out and seek a life beyond the military.
I went to work for Northrop Aircraft at Vance AFB from 1980-1983, then I accepted an offer from Lockheed Aircraft, to go to Saudi Arabia, and train the Royal Saudi Air Force in aircraft maintenance, following that I returned to the US and worked for Boing Aircraft as a Manager in Aircraft Modification in the US. I then accepted and offer from Lockheed again to go to South Carolina as a Production Manager in aircraft and Aircraft Paint Operations. I then accepted an offer from McDonnel - Douglas to return to Saudi Arabia to train the Royal Saudi Arabian Air Force in aircraft maintenance on F-15 fighter aircraft. After nearly 7 years I was offered a Production Operations Manager position with Boeing after they had procurred McDonnel Douglas in 1996 and was assigned to the fighter factory in Saint Louis , Mo. .My final position was Director of Aircraft Maintenance, Modification, and Aircraft Assembly. I took an early retirement at 55 1/2.
