Today's Featured Biography
John Waters
Since "raising Hale" in high school with my buddies: John Hooper, Barney Villareal, Scott Wilson, and many others, I attended the University of Arkansas and received a BSME. Upon graduating (1983) I moved to Sherman, Texas and worked as a Robotics Engineer at Texas Instruments, where I also helped establish a new Young Life club in north Texas.
After a couple of years full-time with Young Life, I returned to my high-school (and younger) love of cars. I moved to Detroit and worked for GM in robotics & automation, then in product design on the world's first mass-produced electric car, the EV1.
I married my beautiful bride, Sonya, in 1990 (we met in Detroit) and moved to Indiana in 1992 to work on the EV1 battery. We had 3 children in Indiana (1994, 96, 98) and moved to Florida in 2004, where our 4th child was born (between hurricane weekends ;-0) in Coral Springs, FL.
My work in auto, EVs, and batteries eventually took us to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, where we always dreamed to raise our kids (I worked in Snowmass, CO and we lived in Carbondale, CO, 2005). I worked for an energy "think tank" called Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), where I eventually led an EV start-up and took it back to Indiana in 2008.
In 2010 after completing an EV business deal with GM and Uncle Sam, I stepped down from the EV company, started my own consulting company, and began praying about my next chapter in life. He answered my prayers and opened my eyes to the 1.5 billion "least of these", who currently do not have access to clean energy nor have the ability to live a high quality life or have mobility.
Addressing this issue, in 2016 I patented several "Wireless Grid" battery solutions for our global "neighbors" and now hoping to implement a benevolent energy business model in 66 nations. Funding this future dream is a bit foggy at the moment, but we know we're in the right place at the right time, and at peace.
I'm currently engaging with the Cherokee Nation, in which I am a citizen, and hoping to collaborate with them in providing clean, cheap, abundant energy for the First Nation tribes in the U.S.
I recently (6/2024) visited Tulsa for the first time since my dad passed in 2015. Of course I ate at Coney-Islander, and drove by my childhood home on Joplin Place. I also drove by Hale High School and observed quite a bit of it, and the parking lot, under construction. The whole Tulsa area sure could use some revitalizing, as it was a bit sad to see how things looked: quite "run down" and empty.
But, none of this dampened my High School memories and all the amazing people in my life during those formative years. I hope to see you at our 50th reunion in 2028!
Hail to the Rangers!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
