Today's Featured Biography
Jennifer Borda
After graduating from Sun Valley, I attended Villanova University as a Communication major from 1991-1995. I then was employed in Corporate Communications by CIGNA Corporation in Philadelphia for 18 months, during which time I lived in the Fairmount section of Center City. I left CIGNA to begin graduate school at Penn State at University Park in the fall of 1996, received my M.A. in Speech Communication in 1998 and my Ph.D. in the same in 2002. I lived in State College, Pennsylvania for those six years and taught two classes a semester at Penn State as part of my assistantship. In August 2002 I moved to Portsmouth, New Hampshire and began my current position as an Assistant Professor of Rhetoric at the University of New Hampshire's Department of Communication. I teach classes in the rhetorical analysis of film, rhetorical theory, presidential rhetoric, propaganda and persuasion, the rhetoric of popular culture, and public speaking. I also continue to research and publish in the areas of documentary film studies, feminist media studies, and rhetorical criticism. This summer I begin the tenure and promotion process and, hopefully, by next spring will become an Associate Professor with Tenure.
I got married last September to Willem Verweij in York, Maine at the Nubble Lighthouse. We currently live in Dover, which is on the New Hampshire seacoast, just a few minutes from the Maine border and about an hour North of Boston. Willem has his own physical therapy practice a few miles north in Rochester, New Hampshire. In our limited free time we love to go hiking, running, and to the beach with our Border Collie Margot. She has proven to be quite a training partner for us, as Willem and I completed our second half-marathon this year last weekend in Woodstock, VT.
