Angie and I moved to Tappahannock, Virginia shortly after she graduated college. We taught in nearby schools until the homesick bug bit us in 1999. That, and we wanted our son to grow up closer to his grandparents than a 4 1/2 hour car ride.
We both got jobs at West Perry, she at the elementary school and I at our alma mater. She lasted much longer than I did. She's still teaching third grade at New Bloomfield Elementary. I left West Perry High School in 2003 and started working (and living) at Carson Long Military Academy.
We lived in an apartment on campus with Charlie and Grace (who arrived in 2001). Along with my own two children, I was essentially a father to the boys who lived in my building who numbered as high as 50 in a good year. Also, those boys came from places as far away as Mexico, Egypt, Taiwan, China, Morocco, and the Ukraine. And I thought it was a long drive from here to Blain!
In addition to being the head building officer of my dormitory, I was the English instructor for all the juniors on campus, I taugh a Bible & Public Speaking class (sort of two electives that got smashed together), I was the Drum & Bugle Corps advisor (still involved in music--just not playing anymore), the assistant quartermaster (essentially helping out with uniform distribution), and I helped manage the campus Kwik-E-Mart (gotta keep those boys stocked up with snacks!).
For a variety of reasons, I left Carson Long in 2010 and spend the next two years basically on survival mode. I jumped from working for AFLAC to being a public relations contact at Spiral Path Farm in Loysville to subbing at local high schools to teaching composition courses at the Harrisburg branch of the University of Phoenix and at HACC to spending six months as a cottage aide at Loysville Youth Development Center. I chalk those years up to a very lengthy learning experience. 'Nuff said!
My long and winding road has led me to the Financial Aid department of Penn State University's World Campus. We're essentially Penn State's online presence, and I help students from all over the country and the planet with their financial aid questions and concerns. I'm an old dog learning new tricks, but I've been blessed with excellent (and patient) co-workers and a terrific director.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
