Today's Featured Biography
Barbara Haines
2016-
After McCaskey graduation, I studied liberal arts at Brown University in Rhode Island for 4 years, and found it helpful to gain a new perspective on my life through the education there and living in a different part of the country.
I married right out of college in 1970, traveled a bit, and then settled in Rochester, NY with my husband for a few years. I worked with children and had a home business during those years. I learned about a serious meditation practice there which I still engage in (Zen), and also made some good friends. Since 1974, I have been involved with the Society of Friends (Quakers), and now attend London Grove Friends Meeting in Chester County.
We had a daughter in 1974, came back to PA, and bought a house in the Susquehanna River Hills that I still own. I became active in the environmental protection movement at that time.
We had twin sons in 1977. In 1982, our marriage ended, and I began a 2nd degree in Computer Science at Millersville Univ. The children and I moved back to Rochester, NY in 1987, and I rented out the house in Lancaster County. I worked in the field of engineering software development from 1986 to 2002.
The children all got scholarships to wonderful schools in Rochester, and we thrived there. Eventually, I bought a little house there also, and took up playing the alto saxophone at a community program at the Eastman School of Music as well.
From 2002 to 2005, I completed a part-time Masters Degree program in social work in Rochester and switched to working in that field at the same time. Sitting in front of a computer all day had become too much for me, but it helped me a lot in raising 3 children.
I moved back to PA in 2008, worked in Philadelphia for a year, and then sold the house in Rochester and returned to the country house in Lancaster County in 2009. I live there at present.
I currently am an outpatient therapist at 2 community mental health agencies, and am studying to get licensed in professional play therapy.
I have one granddaughter, (age 1), who lives with my daughter and her husband in Colorado. I visit with them 4 times a year. I see my one son and his wife when they visit me or I go to London, Ontario Province in Canada where they live. My other son is a businessman in Johannesburg, South Africa. I wanted my children to be independent and resourceful, but clearly I overdid it!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
