Today's Featured Biography
Tim Tassone
Tim graduated from McKeesport Senior High School, class of 1964. He received his BA in Psychology and Journalism from Kent University in 1968. He pursued graduate studies at the University of Pittsurgh.
Tim’s career started at the former Lando, Inc., Pittsburgh-based ad agency in 1969 where he grew from and Assistant Account Executive, to a Media Buyer, and finally to an Account Manager. At Lando, he worked on the Erie Brewing Company, Universal-Rundle Corp., and The Quaker State Gasoline Company accounts.
He moved onto MARC & Company in 1972, where he was an Account Supervisor on the Arby's Roast Beef Restaurants International, The GeeBee Department Store chain, and The Marriott Hotel accounts.
Next, he accepted the challenge of second in charge of the Pittsburgh office of Fahlgren& Ferriss in 1977, in charge of the office's operating system and program as well as client service on the Foodland and Endicott-Johnson accounts.
Ketchum Communications was the next stop in 1979, as a VP-Management Supervisor in Ketchum Advertising managing the account group of the Wear-Ever Aluminum, Penn Athletic Products, Eat 'N Park Restaurant, and Dow Corning Silicon Sealants accounts. Later in his stay at Ketchum, he was appointed at the VP-Managing Director of Ketchum-Direct direct marketing profit center.
A change in his career path occurred as he accepted the position of VP-Design Services Division, Marketing/Communications Department at Mellon Bank in 1983, where he planned, developed, and implemented a new internal agency department for the Bank and all of its affiliates.
He established his own business after Mellon as a Strategic Marketing/ Communications Specialist in 1985, servicing higher technology, health care, and higher education organizations such as Learning International, Shadyside Hospital Comprehensive Cardio-Vascular Care, and Carnegie Mellon University.
He was Managing Director and former Corporate Chief Operating Officer of ten|united (formerly HMS Hallmark and Hallmark/Tassone, Inc.) which started as the President/CEO of the Robert L. Stevenson ad agency in 1986, which became Tassone/Stevenson Marketing Communications, then Hallmark/Tassone, Inc. He reitred from the agancy at the end of 2003.
Tim is a retired Adjunct Professor at the H. John Heinz III School or Public Policy and Management, Carnegie Mellon University, teaching there for the17 years from 1983-2000. He taught two levels of graduate school courses in strategic marketing/ communications planning at The Heinz School.
Also, he was a candidate for a newly developed position as a distance learning lecturer of strategic marketing/communications planning in the Health Masters of Business program at the University of Tennessee.
He is currently a member of the Carlow College (Pittsburgh) Division of Management Course Advisory Committee. Also, he was been appointed to the Diocese of Pittsburgh Pastoral Counsel directed by Bishop Donald Wuerl.
He has been on the board of directors of the Golden Triangle YMCA, The Health Research and Services Foundation, The Worldwide Partners Organization (international network of independently owned/operated agencies), and The National Aviary in Pittsburgh. He was involved with Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Science Center’s marketing advisory committee.
Tim served as the First Vice-Chairman of the Board as well as the Chair of the Marketing & Communications Committee, The American Red Cross of Southwestern Pennsylvania. He received an award in 2003 for Outstanding Service to the Chapter.
As of 16 February 2004, he was appointed Interim Chief Executive Officer, American Red Cross-SWPA Chapter.
He has written and published a 24-part series of articles entitled "Marketronics: The Art and the Science of Marketing/Communications" for numerous local and regional health care and business related publications. He has also developed, written, and published a comprehensive workbook for marketing/ communications planning which has been used by universities in the USA and Canada, as well as advertising agencies (through the Worldwide Partners Organization) in the USA, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.
Tim was the recipient of the 1997 Outstanding Achievement Award for Advertising Agencies and Allied Advertising Industries by the Pittsburgh Radio and TV Club. He was also a finalist for the Pittsburgh Business Marketing Association’s Ad Agency Executive of the year for 1999.
He is also is a special Deputy Sheriffof Allegheny County (Pittsburgh, PA).
He and his wife (Ilona) live in Churuchill, PA and have a daughter (Olivia) and a son (Tim) both living and working in Pittsburgh. Tim and Ilona’s current "baby" is Sweet Pea, a 14 year-old Pug who really rules their home!
