Hey Spartans what's up? We had some good timfes at dear old Schenley High. I had some golden friends there, Peabody, and Westinghouse.Prior to my 1977 graduation from Case Western Reserve University, where I played football,I volunteered as a Big Brother; as result I was, during the fall of my SR. yr. hired part time with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Cleveland with the understanding of full time employment upon my My 77 graduation. I was blessed not having to seek employment upon graduation. I was awarded a full graduate scholarship with stipend as well, but quit school after one semester. I was not interested in schooling at the time. Moved to Chicago in 1980,was employed with the Illinois Dept. of Children and Family Services until my August 2009 retirement as Child Abuse Investigation Administrator. Would later receive another full scholarship to attend the Univ. of Chicago where I received a degree in social work administration. Married to college sweetheart, Denise for 34 years now.Hobbies are most sports, have coached youth varsity football and baseball for kids aged 7-10 yrs. I have been a Sunday school teacher of kids aged 8-11 since 1993. Fondly remember my days at Schenley and Case. We had some good teachers at Schenley. Blessed with three kids and one grandchild, my grandson, Andre Gregory Young JR. born on my birthday July 2nd 2011. He sits and listens to his "papa" taking with him for a half hour at a time. My sons and daughter are/were athletes. My daughter played basketball, softball, and volleyball. She now coaches those sports in high school. She's a math teacher, attended Penn State.Andre played basketball, baseball, and ran track, he's an agricultural engineer for Kraft foods, he attended another big 10, Univ. of Illinois. Son Mike plays All conference football, basketball, baseball. He's a Jr. in Iowa.He plans on becoming a physed teacher/coach or get into sports medicine. We're already preparing Andre Jr. for sports. He has a myriad of sports equipment. He's also musically inclined; I informed my son Andre that Jr might be in the band. Sr says he'll only accept this if he's playing in the band at half time after playing two quarters of football or basketball. I told him, we'll see.Whatever he decides he'll have support. Would love to know what my fellow spartans are up to. On 7/31/05, I stepped out a uhaul forgetting how high up I was and fell on the sidewalk, my neck snapping back, breaking it. I was a quadraplegic for two months. No feelings or movements below the neck. Through prayer, faith, and the goodness of God,movement and feelings gradually returned. Late 2006 was able to awkwardly walk without the assistance of any device. I still couldn't raise my arms too high and my hands don't close. On June 30 2009, I tripped and fractured a bone in my back, now must utilize a walker. God is still good though, and I am thankful for my blessings. I now am aware of the important things in life. I no longer sweat the small stuff and there's lots of small stuff. I still laugh alot, I'm still silly at times, my family thinks I'm the corniest person around, and I continue to thank God for my many blessings. I can still recall that humid August 2005 day when my face was sweaty and itching and I was unable to scratch it. When I was first injured, as I was being driven away in the ambulance wouldn't you know there was a fly in the ambulance tormenting me, my family wopuld later jokingly comment that could only happen to dad/Greg. My wheel chair and bed, I was hospital;ized for three and a half months, were equipped with a straw. When I needed something I would blow into the straw to alert staff. I was famous for least using my straw as I noticed how frustrated medical staff could get with those who they perceived as blowing too often. I had an extremely mean nurse during one shift. I had begun to spasm badly, blew into my straw, the nurse ripped it out my mouth and placed it out of reach. If I had needed it say in case I began to choke, I wopuld have died. I have to say I was a model patient well liked by administration and most of the medical staff. I rarely complained and acknowledged the difficulty with working with very needy patients to the point where I outlined procedures for the staff to become more effective and give them a respite. My ideas were accepted by administration and staff saw me as an advocate. So when I complained about this nurse who apparently was in the wrong profession, I was believed and she was fired.I had thought about returning to work in some sort of patient advocacy role, believing that I could get a job with Northwestern Hospital in Chicago where I had been. God blessed me to be housed at RIC, The Rehabilitation Institue of Chicago, a leading wordly hospital for spinal cord injuries. RIC was rated #1 in the world, such notables receiving services there were Muhamad Ali, and Christopher Reeves. Yes, superman was there when I was there, of course he received private services, not receiving them in the public gymnasium.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
