John Harris

I actually did not graduate with my class. I decided to take the G.E.D. test and joined the US Navy when I was 18. I was in the Navy for six years, 3 active and 3 inactive. I secreted in the Persian Gulf during the Irain hostage crisis. I saw the world for sure. We went to 10 different countries Austrailia was my favorite and also Indonesia because it was so beautiful. My duty station was San Diego California. We also spent a year in Long Beach California in drumstick being reported with new weapons systems. Yes my ship the USA Fox CG-33 was badass.5 different missiles,torpedoes, tactical nukes,6 inch gun aft. Phalanx at midship and 6 60 caliber machine guns, and as always with the military systems that I can't say anything about. After the military marriage,kids,divorce,marriage kids divorce. Then moved to Baton Rouge LA. Worked for the state then on casino boats. After Baton Rouge came Port Isabel,Texas. Started working as a secondhand on South Padre Island and a year and half later became a captain. This was my dream job.I loved it so much because first it was fun and I got to work in tee shirt shorts and flip flops. Next was interacting with the children and also meeting people from all over the world.I was very happy enjoying a job that was very rewarding and was something I was happy doing.I actually gained a lot of knowledge from this job going to captain school and learning about the many different forms of sea life and the eco system in which they lived in. Unfortunately later on my health from many different injuries finally caught up with me and I had to retire at age 46.The plus about my life here in Port Isabel was meeting the real love of my life after being single for fifteen years I decided it was time to get married. That was one of the best decisions I had made in my whole life. We have been married for 7 years now and I am still in love with her just as I was when I met her. I have always said our match was made in heaven. So now I am still happily married and living across the street from the Laguna Madre Bay fishing when I want and the most important of all spending as much time with family as possible.
