Today's Featured Biography
Staci Roberts Huston
A lot has happened since High School for me, as I am sure it has for everyone. Directly after High School, my best friend and I, Audra Kasparian went to S.U.S.C (now known as S.U.U)in Cedar City. We were both on the Drill Team there, and working to put ourselves through college. I actually tried out for a country/pop band and became their lead singer, which was lucky for me because it paid well. We travelled around the small towns of Southern Utah playing and singing and that is how I helped pay my way through college.
After two years of getting used to life on my own, and making several mistakes, I decided I really wanted to go to BYU. So in the Fall of 88, I headed up to Provo and became a "Mighty Cougar."
It was at BYU where I really grew up, and had some of my greatest experiences ever. To make a long story short, I ended up on the BYU International Ballroom Dance Team, toured and competed in Europe, and met my future husband (who just happened to be my dance partner of course!).
My husband, Tim Huston, and I were married on July 31, 1992 and now have four children, Riley, Nick, Drake, and Savannah. We both graduated from BYU in 1994, he with a Construction Management Degree, and I with a Secondary Education/History/Dance Degree.
Yes of course, I wanted to get back to High School because I loved it so much, so my first job was teaching History, and all types of dance at American Fork High School in A.F. Utah. My biggest love however, was teaching the Ballroom Dance Team there, and I have been teaching Ballroom Dance ever since.
I directed the A.F. team for 3 years while teaching there, and then I went on to teach at U.V.S.C for three years, while teaching at two private studios; Center Stage and Dance Attack.
My husband and I then were asked to teach at Ricks College in Idaho, just as it was becoming BYU-I, so we moved up to Idaho, and have been here since July of 2001. We ended up quitting BYU-I in 2004 and starting our own Ballroom Company. It is called the "Extreme Ballroom Company" and we have over 200 students. Our teams have all placed in the top 3 nationally and there never seems to be a dull moment in our lives due to family and ballroom.
My husband also does construction still and just finished building us a new home.
I did have one major tragedy happen in my family. My younger brother, Mark Roberts, who graduated from Taylorsville in 1995, died of bone cancer in May of 2001. He was only 24 and it was a very hard thing for us to lose him.
We currently live in Rigby, Idaho and we will probably never move back to Utah. We love living in the country and love that we were able to buy an acre lot for only $18,000.00!! You should all move here!!
Hope you enjoyed the story, and hope to see all of you at the Reunion!! Staci Roberts Huston
