Charles Craven, Jr

After graduation I joined the U.S. Navy (Apri 1971 until June 1975) got out as an E-4 passed the E-5 Exam but didn't stay in to put it on. Got a job at the American Lake Veterans Hospital (Jul 75 until August 1982) started out in the file room, then to the mailroom, then finally in Building Management as a housekeeper a glorified janitor. Stayed in the Naval Reserves and made E-6 and recalled to active duty in 1982 and was stationed onboard USS DWIGHT D EISENHOWER (CVN 69 Homeport Norfolk, VA) Oct 82 to Nov 83, did a Mediteranean Cruise and swapped to USS O'BRIEN (DD 975 Homeport San Diego, CA) Dec 83 to Nov 84, transferred to USS WADDELL (DDG 24 Homeport San Diego but then to Long Beach for an overhaul period Nov 84 to Feb 86. Transferred to Navy Recruiting District San Francisco which was really in Oakland, CA Feb 86 to Dec 89 Transferred to USS MAUNA KEA (AE 22 Dec 89 to Oct 92) made Chief (E-7) while attached to her and got divorced. transferred to Navy Absentee Collection Unit Seattle (Sandpoint) Oct 92 to Jan 94, closed the unit down and transferred to Submarine Base Bangor (Silverdale, WA) where I met my wife to be and got married in Dec 97 Jan 94 to Oct 97 then to VAQ-140 Oct 97 to Apr 2001 Whidbey Island was then attached to USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74) and USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69) and made two Med cruises also made Senior Chief Petty Officer (E-8). Transferred to NAS Lemoore, CA Apr 01 to Jul 03 when I retired and moved back to Port Orchard, WA. Worked at Fircrest Golf Course Apr 04 to Aug 06 as a club house maintenance person. Worked for the Department of Homeland Security Sep 06 until Apr 14 and retired. Now I'm volunteering at the VA Golf Course two days a week in Maintenance and Grounds Crew really nice to give back to the ones that lost so much for our country. Karen and I live in Lake Tapps and can't wait for our next renion.
