Wayne Reynolds

After college Boeing hired me at Renton where I was part of the drafting team that designed the KC-35 plane, the first to refuel aircraft while in the air, specifically located over Iceland.

My homeopathic physician predicted I would die from serious allergenic issues, so I left Boeing and came to Portland where my wife could transfer her credits and get a teaching degree in preparation for being a widow.

I held several jobs in Portland since I did not die. My work at Safeway led to a management position there before I went into insurance as an independent Farmers agent and then included selling homes for Stan Wiley Realty.

At my new doctor's suggestion I took on a career with less stress for me and drove the municipal bus as well as doing a stint as Fare Inspector, Line Trainer and Station Agent then back to driving again until my retirement from Tri-Met.

All these retirement years I have volunteered community service for the non-profit Senior Service called Loaves and Fishes, mainly driving donated bakery goods to the four lunch places near my home where seniors gather weekdays. It has been rewarding to know friends through this work and my wife can appreciate having our home to herself at midday as well.

A highlight of retirement was being accepted to drive bus at the Salt Lake Winter Olympics. The scenery was cold but beautiful, the athletes were a pleasure to transport to the mountain, and I have great memories of the fine orchestration of details involving such masses of people. I could even choose hot oatmeal for breakfast as though I were home.

A little-known fact is that on a nearby island there in Utah are breeding grounds for seagulls. If you wondered why you do not see baby seagulls at the beach, one reason is that their first part of life is spent at a breeding site such as that one.

My friend at Yakima High School, Howard Fenton, and I grew up in Union Gap since age ten. He had several sisters and I was an only child living at the Sunset Motel. Howard and I fished some and we're good friends. He has been living in Great Falls, Montana many years.
