Heidi Rasmussen Potts

Hi Class of 1974 Classmates! I am happy to be the administrator of this website. It would be great if we could locate all of our classmates and stay in touch with each other. Please share, this website with any classmates you know. We would love to hear from everyone!

Here is a snapshot of my life since graduating from PiHiXi.
After graduating from Prius I attended UW Milwaukee to start working toward a teaching degree. I met Greg Potts (‘73) at The Scoreboard in West Allis and we were in some classes together at UWM. We started dating and before long we were married. We had our first child and I dropped out of college for awhile to raise our son Eric. We bought our 1st house when we were 20 years old for $35,000! After 2 miscarriages we had our second son Nicholas. Greg worked at Harnischfeger for several years and became a supervisor. He was laid off when PH started going downhill. Greg found a new job in Mayville where he was a manager. We moved to West Bend so he could be closer to his job. In West Bend I went back to school at UW followed by Mount Mary College. There I got a degree in Early Childhood Education. At this time Greg found a better job as the Director of Quality at Pierce Manufacturing and we moved to Appleton. I found a job with the UW there in their child care. Soon after I found a job teaching kindergarten at Holy Name School in Kimberly. I absolutely loved that job and taught there for 12 years. But, the school closed and I lost my dream job. My principal found me a job at her schools as a librarian. She suggested that I work toward getting my masters to become a principal. I went to Marian University and earned my Master of Education in Leadership. I found a job as principal at St. Philip School in Green Bay. I knew it would be a 1 year job because they were closing the school. I loved the people there and enjoyed my first job as principal. There was a convent on the 3rd floor of the school. I never dreamed that I would be the boss of 8 nuns but I was!! They were wonderful, kind and supportive. It was really hard to see them have to move out at the end of the year. I then found a job as principal of St. Elizabeth Seton in Oshkosh. With the exception of 1 parent I absolutely loved this school l and working in a system of schools called The Unified Catholic Schools of Oshkosh or UCS. I was there 3 years and would have stayed there forever but I had another adventure waiting for me. My oldest son Eric got a job as a neurologist in Jackson, TN. He had a specialty that they needed him there for. They were going to have a baby right after moving there and they asked me to help and of course I couldn’t refuse. We planned on me moving down there so I could help with the baby. Greg and I bought a second house and I moved down there as soon as our first grandchild Dylan was born. I really enjoyed helping to raise him and we really bonded. We are still super close. During this time Greg and some business partners bought a machine company in Fond du Lac. It was a failing business when they bought is and Greg ran the company and revived it. After 2 years in TN I moved back to the Appleton area. I got a job as principal in the catholic school system called GRACE at St. Matthew School. I was not very happy at this school. There were some teachers there who thought that they ruled the roost and my mild mannered personality was not a good match. During my time at St. Matthew we had a second grandson, Gibson. At the end of 2 years I left and I still have very bad feelings about this school and the GRACE system. By this time our son Eric and his family moved back to the Milwaukee area. This seemed like a good time to move back to the MKE area for us too. We sold our house and moved to Hubertus which we found out later was the town my grandmother was born and raised in. Their family farm is about 2 miles from our new house. It is great being close to my grandkids and family now. Our son Nick lives in Washington DC and is married to his husband Aaron. Nick Is a graduate of Harvard University and is an architect. He has worked around the world with prominent architects and has lived in NYC until recently moving to Washington DC. Aaron works at the National Gallery of Art. Greg is working as the president of a small company that makes medical supplies. He looking forward to retiring next year and Then we plan to travel to Alaska and Hawaii. We have been married for 46 years! It is amazing how fast time seems to have gone.
