Gary Olson

Since our last class reunion where Robbie Kinch tried to bear-hug my then expecting wife, a few changes have occurred. Jennifer and I were blessed with the addition of Madeline Margaret and Olivia Katherine. Both of the girls are enjoying dance classes, swimming at the local lake and introducing "mom" and "dad" to all of their friends parents. Madeline started Kindergarten this year.

While remodeling the kitchen, I learned two very important and lasting lessons on life: 1) Children really do listen to their parents while learning with sponge-like brains, 2) Dads end up in a whole lot more trouble with mom than what the child does when the child blurts out explicatory slip. (No it was turrets and dads should never attempt to build a rebuttal of accusing those damn kids at the sitters! No I did not learn a third lesson as I still seem to fall victom of occassionaly trying to debate the greatness of my position on such matters, to that of my dear wife's).

Currently I am wrapping up my second combat tour in Iraq. With twenty-one years down and about six more to go with Uncle Sam, I am not certain what my future holds for being back over here or off to Afghanistan? Thank God for an awesome spouse and very supportive friends & neighbors. I am still employed (or so I think that I still am) as one of the Agricultural Instructors in the School District of Fort Atkinson.

Upcoming plans include reconnecting with my family this summer by camping out in the backyard, teaching the girls how to water ski and a whole lot of appreciating time with friends and family at a very slow and social pace around the fire pit. We apparently adopted a rescued Labrador Retriever during my absence, (long story); that now makes two female labs that I will have to fight for the covers with when I return? How can women get such a good nights sleep when the dog and kids all stealthily end up in mom and dad’s bed during the middle of the night?

Jennifer’s position as a financial consultant with New York Life is building momentum, so let’s hear it for female bread winners of the relationships. Oh yeah, that damn masters program is still kicking my backside but I will complete it one of these days between deployments. Can you imagine if I actually get a position as a school administrator? Lord help us all!
