Today's Featured Biography
Sara Simpson
I went to WVU after high school and graduate in 2002 with a BA in Psychology (English minor), basically lost and not knowing what to do,since my only plan was to go to grad school, but seeing as how the Applied Behavior Analysis program at WVU accepts 4 out of 300 applicants, that plan fell through. So I moved to Baltimore, MD to work at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and continue to study behavior analysis and learn about treating severe behavior problems and work with families. At this time I was specifically interested in autism, which I learned a great deal about and have since had many opportunites to work with children and families affectd by autism. Baltimore was not the place for me though (oh the details I could elucidate here....) and I moved to Asheville in 2004 on a whim. I worked for FEMA for a short while after hurricanes Ivan and Francis, and learned a great deal about government process in disaster relief...disappointing at best. Shortly thereafter, I started working in child mental health (as opposed to developmental disabilities) and continue to learn about family dynamics, behaivoral therapy, and treating children who bascally cannot function in school and community settings. It's challenging to say the least. I am a mother, a single one, and this too is challening, a blessing perhaps, but it's a hard job. Eliza is a great kid, and I see myself in her every day (poor kid)
Despite my career in psychology,writing continues to be my first love, and I hope to one day turn that passion into a more lucrative enterprise. I recently won a poetry contest, and am having some poems published in a book! ( A huge goal of mine :))
I don't know if I will make it to the reunion, I thought it was over labor day. How far back it would take me to party at the Stanley Farm though!
