I will be missing the upcoming 20 year reunion. As a poor substitute, I'll do my best at this biography thing.
After high school, I headed off to UAF for a year and a half to squander what savings I had and determine that I did not want to be an engineer. Then I spent another year and a half at UAA and working nights at the Anchorage Times to learn that I wanted to be an engineer. Armed with this hard learned knowledge, I headed off to Ohio where I eventually finished my education. I met, completely by accident, Sean Jeffery at a bar in Kent on my 21st birthday and we shared a few drinks (small, small world it is sometimes). It was also here that I was introduced to and eventually married my wife Joanne.
We moved to Maryland for a job at NASA, but living in the Baltimore-DC rat race is much less fun than it sounds. Next we tried Pittsburgh which, suprisingly, is a lot more fun that it sounds, and have been here ever since. Geek jobs at CMU, IBM and eventually a tech startup followed.
I used to have real hobbies, really I did, but three young kids full o' beans and more recently a bad back has for the moment interrupted any such activities of note. My wife Joanne and our oldest daughter Katie are both horsey fanatics. Emily, our middle child, loves dancing. I don't believe she actually knows how to walk, but rather glides an twirls from place to place. Bubba the destroyer, our three year old red-headed son and tornado of destruction, insures we do not become overly attached to any unbroken material posessions we may still own. Throw in a pair of cats, a pair of dogs, fish bowl and a brother-in-law in the attic and you have the Head household.
My folks, brothers and sister have all moved to the San Francisco bay area or New York City over the years. I have no family left in Alaska, only memories.
----
4 year update.
Added another boy to even things out in the family. My back is much better. I have now lived longer in Pittsburgh than Anchorage, which just doesn't seem possible. My kids no longer believe my stories of braving penguin stampedes on my way to school back in the day. I have a teenager in the house, which explains the gray in my beard but not the full set of hair. Elizabeth Davidson Rose is a neighbor of mine as she trains in the art of inflicting pain, otherwise known as dentistry.
Strangely, the farther away in time I move from Dimond High, the more it is in my thoughts. Must be early alzheimer's setting in.
