Today's Featured Biography
LaVerne Burnham Merrill
I was born and raised in a little town in Colorado. After spending a year in the state of Washington my family moved to Mesa. I was in the eighth grade. We all loved it in Mesa. Most of my family still live there or in the state and I visit as often as I can.
After high school I got married, had a child a year later, and divorced a year after that. I saved money for a year and then went to BYU. I loved it there, but after a couple of years I was transferred in my work to Salt Lake City. I continued taking a few extension classes.
After a year in Salt Lake City I married Gene Merrill, whom I had met three years earlier at BYU. He got a teaching job in Vernal, Utah. We spent the next seven years there. I took extension classes from Utah State University and graduated in 1970. I started teaching in Elementary school.
In 1975 Gene decided to go out of teaching and move back to his home town in Ramah, New Mexico. It is a very little, out in the country town, and I have spent over half of my life here. It would surely be nice to have shopping, libraries, etc. close by.
After years of infertility I was able to have three more children. When my youngest was about two I started teaching again. I taught for a total of 14 years and was school librarian for 10 years and have been retired for eight years.
I have nine grandchildren ranging in age from age 27 to 9 months, whom I enjoy a lot, but don't see too often. They are scattered from Michigan, to North Carolina, to Arizona, to New Mexico. I did drive with my daughter Becky from Oregon to North Carolina a couple of years ago when she moved. I visited my daughter Nikki in Germany when her husband was stationed there a few years ago.
I have spent a lot of time gardening, which is hard in our cold climate, but I enjoy it. I have had many calling in the church, especially teaching. The last few years I have had fun attending the local Farmer's Market.
I like to do family history. My sister Linda and I are about finished compiling a 700 page family history book with about 100 biographies in it of our parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, and grandparents three generations back.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
