Sharon Smith Gibson

Married? Married Dick Eads in 1961 and had our beautiful daughter, Cheryl in 1962. Divorced in ‘64. Married Doug in ‘68. Still happily married to Doug and good friends with Dick.
Grandchildren? Cheryl (now 48) has two married sons and her youngest was responsible for my first great grandchild in May 2010. Yikes!
My Life in a Nutshell: Went to work for FPD in ‘62 and worked my way up from pbx operator to meter maid. Left there in ‘68 and became one of first OCSO female Deputy Sheriffs to “man” their new womens jail. Doug got laid off from Hugh’s and began building a trimaran sailboat in our backyard in Westminster. That boat was launched in ‘74. I quit the OCSO in ‘75 and the three of us took off for Hawaii and then French Polynesia. We eventually settled on Kauai in ‘79 and except for a 4 year stint in Watsonville, CA as part owners of a “clean solvents” business (really long story) we have remained happy residents of Kauai.
Retired? We have three rental properties on the Island that provide our income but also keep us pretty busy. I also do all of the record keeping for our local yacht club. I am their webmaster and am a Race Officer. Doug races our boat (another one we built in our backyard here) and I keep the scores. We both do the party after. See http://www.nawiliwiliyachtclub.org
High School Expectations? My life never had a plan. It’s all been just one big surprise after the next. What a ride!
High School Wishes? Well I wish I had at the very least made the Featherettes. I tried. I failed.
A Fullerton Kid? You bet! Although I love living in Hawaii, my home will always be Fullerton in my heart. The very best times of my life all happened there. I was Fullerton’s “Miss Hospitality” in 1960 and then went on to give parking tickets to all those stores I cut the ribbons for. My dad graduated from FUHS in 1925. He and his brother both worked at the Fullerton Theater. My dad played the background organ music for the silent movies before “talkies” and my uncle was a manager. My dad went to FJC and his family owned and lived on an orange grove near Valencia and Raymond. When I was at FUHS we lived in a house on Ash Street that was on what was once my dad’s orange grove. His father lost it in the depression. The whole Smith clan owned lots of orange grove property there.
Regrets? Not one. I wouldn’t change one thing even if I could.
