Today's Featured Biography
Karen(Jill) Shelly Sorensen
Lake Arrowhead was "My Summer Place". I suppose it always will be & represents a very happy time in my life...After graduating in June 1961, I worked at the Lake Arrowhead Lodge & the Yacht Club for the rest of the summer. I worked in Long Beach, then moved to Santa Maria CA to go to school at Allan Hancock College. I wanted to become a Nurse. There I met my husband Paul and we were married in August of 1965. Paul & I married in Solvang near our families, & then moved to Long Beach so that Paul could continue his education at Long Beach State. I worked at Buffum's Dept. Store & The General and Pacific Telephone Companies, & at Northrup/Nortronics Corp. in Hawthorne & Torrance CA. while putting Paul through College. In April 1969 our 1st son (Don)ald Paul was born. When Paul finished at L.B State we moved to Santa Barbara for 8 years, then we moved to Goleta CA for 12 years. Paul loved playing music in a band with his family. On weekends we often traveled up and down the coast of CA as far North as San Franciso and Redding to play dance jobs or 'gigs' as "The Sorensen Brothers" called it...Over the yrs. Paul worked at Santa Barbara Research, and The Goleta Valley & Las Virgenes Water Dists. I worked at "The Hamburger Habit" where the best hamburgers & Chili were made in town. I worked at the "The Alternative" which was a printing & copy (reproduction) shop...I learned a lot about the printing business, but I still had a hankering to go back to school to become a Nurse. We had our 2nd son, (Jon)athan Martin on June 25th, 1983. There were 14 years between our 2 sons. I finally went back to Santa Barbara City College & got my L.V.N. (Iicensed Vocational Nurse) License and worked out of Cottage and Goleta Valley Hosps. as a Nurse. I would have gone for my R.N (Registered Nurse) license but we needed an income. Schooling for an L.V.N only took 2 years opposed to an R.N. taking 3 years. For fun... I was an avid bowler and belonged in several leagues (once, 4 at a time) & I loved to 'sub' whenever possible. My average was pretty good for a girl...at 185, I was anchor-man/girl for most of my teams. I loved to bowl in State Tournaments as well... I also loved sports in general, baseball/softball in particular... as a spectator and a participant. I'ved played on a women's slow pitch or 'Lob ball' softball teams for many years. I wasn't very good at running but I was strong as a batter and able to place my hits for strategic singles, doubles, triples, and sometimes rare homeruns...plus I could switch and pinch hit. My favorite positions were: short-stop, 2nd base and most of all...Catcher! I wasn't tall enough for 1st base or I would have loved that too. I loved being involved in the action! Even though we were in our forty's, Paul & I decided we would like to have our 3rd child. Jennifer (Jeni) Ellen, was born 2 years later, to the day, on June 25th, 1985 (on Jon's birthday!) Jeni was our Miracle!!! She was born with a heart defect called "Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome" which means she was born with only 1/2 a heart. They said her odds of surviving were next to none, but we had faith... and Jeni was a fighter! She is still with us today and will celebrate her 21st birthday in June 2006. She continues to Bless us and all those who come in contact with her! I didn't work out of our home during those years when Jeni was growing up because I felt she needed me more than we needed money. During those early years she was in and out of the hospital at UCLA Medical center for: 3 open heart surgeries, a pacemaker, and many procedures, that continued to keep her alive. I became a parent advocate! In 1995 Jeni started going to a Heart Camp called: "Camp del Corazon" on Catalina Island. She loved meeting the other kids that were like herself. I worked at the same camp for many years until 2005. That brings us to the present. Presently we are doing Great! Our daughter Jeni & her fiance Nick have set a date for their up-coming wedding for July 14th, 2007. So we are "knee-deep" in all the planning... Please don't hesitate contacting me if their are any questions. I would Love to hear from any of you as well...
Take Care... With Love, Jill

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
